Thank You

THERE’S BEAUTY IN THE STRUGGLE.

High school was no walk in the park. I faced many trials that could have completely taken me out. Not to say that there weren’t good times because there definitely were some really great times. But, there came a time in my life where I my depression almost won. So, I decided that I wanted to get revenge on life itself.

I PROMISED MYSELF BETTER AND I NEVER LOOKED BACK.

You see, I have realized more and more with each day how blessed I am to be here. I never thought I would make it this far. My depression had me believing that I would never make it past whatever day it was-it felt like nothing would ever change. But here I am, the day after my graduation, looking back absolutely astonished at everything I have accomplished. I have a song on Spotify with over two million plays. I have zero clue how that happened but I think that’s pretty cool.  I started volunteering at RiverTree Academy and actually helped a three year old learn the difference between the letters “R” and “K.” It took all year but we did it. I created an entire blog out of pages I’ve written in my journals. I now wake up every day with a sense of purpose and belonging in a world where I used to feel pointless.

ALL THIS TO SAY

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the people around me. Something my mom always told us growing up is that you become like the five people you’re around the most. Well, I’m around people constantly.  My mother taught me that a dream without a plan is just a dream and that no dream is too big. No one else can want it or make it happen for you. You have to do it yourself. My dad taught me that people will only mess with you if you let them. Don’t let them. My brothers gave me the strength to go on. When I felt like I couldn’t, they picked me up and carried me. My friends showed me that there is always more fun to be had. Fun is where the memories live. The RiverTree kids taught me that joy is always around you just might have to look under a rock. My mentors and counselors showed me that I have a voice that can truly impact people and I should never sit down for things I want to stand up for.

SOMETIMES PEOPLE PLAY A MINUSCULE PART IN YOUR STORY WHILE OTHERS TAKE UP PAGE AFTER PAGE.

Every person in my life has impacted me in a different way. There’s no way in hell I would be where I am without all the people who have loved me so well. So I guess what I’m trying to say is thank you to everyone I have ever encountered. And to all the people reading this blog, I wouldn’t be here without you either. Thank you for never giving up on me.
